Об открытии можно почитать по ссылке http://dmoze.ru/blog/2007/09/otkryilsya-ofitsialnyiy-blog-dmoz/. Пока в блоге blog.dmoz.org одна запись, но при добавлении в читалку можно увидеть ещё две, датированные 4 сентября 2007 г. Автор - Grant Belaire. Копирую себе на память:

An Overview of DMOZ

DMOZ.org is a legacy Netscape application and is sometimes reffred to as the "Open Directory Project".

"The Open Directory Project is the largest, most comprehensive human-edited directory of the Web. It is constructed and maintained by a vast, global community of volunteer editors."

www.dmoz.org (alias for dmoz.org) is the main URL for the public to access the directories and individual entries in the Open Directroy Project. It can recieve high traffic volume, sometime from web trawlers whose IP are added to the IPtables of the three squids (dust[01-03].netscape.com) serving as web caches/proxies. Requests for data not cached or cgi scrrripts go directly to the primary server. (currently dust.netscape.com, a single point of failure)

Join the Open Directory Project

1. Find a category that you would like to maintain.
2. Follow the Become an Editor link at the top of the category page.

Note that some categories do not have a Become an Editor link; you should find a more specific category which interests you, and apply there. Once you have joined, and gained some experience, you can apply for more general categories.
